New Delhi: Donald Trump on Thursday issued a sharp warning to Iran, asking its negotiators to “get serious soon, before it is too late,” even as he criticised NATO allies for what he described as “complete inaction” in the ongoing conflict.
In remarks posted on his Truth Social account, Trump described Iranian negotiators as “strange” and accused them of privately seeking a deal while publicly downplaying engagement with Washington.
“They are begging us to make a deal… which they should be doing since they have been militarily obliterated,” he said, adding, “They better get serious soon… There is no turning back, and it won’t be pretty.”
Hardening US Stance
The remarks signal a toughening posture from Washington as hostilities with Iran approach the one-month mark, with diplomatic efforts appearing uncertain and tensions continuing to escalate.
Trump also dismissed Iran’s public position that it was merely “reviewing” US proposals, suggesting that backchannel negotiations may be underway despite public denials.
Attack on NATO Allies
Turning his focus to allies, Trump criticised NATO nations for failing to support the US during the crisis.
“NATO nations have done absolutely nothing to help… we need nothing from them,” he said, urging Americans to “never forget” the alliance’s response.
Diplomatic Uncertainty Persists
The comments come amid conflicting signals on possible de-escalation efforts, with rhetoric on both sides intensifying even as diplomatic channels remain open but fragile.
Observers say the divergence between public statements and behind-the-scenes engagement reflects the volatile and uncertain nature of the current West Asia crisis, with risks of further escalation still high.
