Kotkapura/Jalaleana:
Police on Thursday arrested two women within hours in connection with a sacrilege incident at a gurdwara in Jalaleana village, where holy pages of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were torn during a heated personal dispute between the accused.

Kotkapura DSP (Sub-Division) Sanjeev Kumar said the arrested women have been identified as Kuldeep Kaur, wife of Jagraj Singh, and Veeran Kaur, wife of Harpal Singh. Both are residents of Jalaleana village.

According to the police, the two women were engaged in a heated argument over personal issues when they entered the gurdwara during their quarrel. In a moment of rage, they allegedly struck the Palki Sahib with their hands, causing the Rumala Sahib and the Khalsa spear placed above it to fall onto the floor. During the incident, five holy Angs (pages) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib were torn, leading to immediate concern and outrage among devotees.

Based on a complaint filed by Jagwinder Singh, who was present inside the gurdwara at the time of the incident, an FIR was registered at the Sadar Kotkapura police station. Given the sensitivity of the matter, the police acted swiftly and arrested both accused within a few hours.

During preliminary interrogation, the women stated that the incident occurred unintentionally, claiming that the damage happened during an uncontrolled outburst of anger while they were arguing with each other over personal matters.

DSP Sanjeev Kumar said that the case is being handled with the utmost seriousness due to its religious sensitivity. Both women are currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway. They will be produced before a court to seek police remand for detailed interrogation. Police have also increased vigilance in the area to prevent breaches of the peace and maintain communal harmony.
