Gurugram, July 11,2025,UPDATED:4.20
In a chilling case of domestic violence that has stunned the city, a local court in Gurugram on Friday remanded Deepak Yadav (49) to one-day police custody after he allegedly shot dead his 25-year-old daughter, Radhika Yadav—a former national-level tennis player and budding entrepreneur.

The murder took place on Thursday morning around 10:30 am at their residence in the upscale Sushant Lok area, where Deepak is accused of firing five bullets at his daughter while she was preparing breakfast in the kitchen. Three of the bullets struck her in the back, resulting in her immediate death, police said.

The court termed the matter “serious and sensitive,” emphasizing the need for a detailed investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the crime. While police had sought a two-day remand, the court granted one-day custody for further interrogation.

Father-Daughter Rift Over Tennis Academy

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fatal dispute stemmed from long-standing disagreements between Radhika and her father over her professional choices. Radhika had been independently running a tennis academy in Sector 57, Gurugram, which had reportedly become a bone of contention within the family.

Speaking to reporters, Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar said, “We have already shared the motive… the accused was angry over the tennis academy run by his daughter. No, this does not appear to be a case of honour killing.”

Gurugram Police PRO Sandeep Kumar added that Deepak had repeatedly asked Radhika to shut down the academy, expressing discomfort with her growing public profile and independence.

During police interrogation, Deepak allegedly confessed to the crime. Investigators quoted him as saying that he felt “insulted” and “emasculated” by his daughter’s success and was angered by repeated arguments, especially allegations that he was financially dependent on her.

Wealth Not a Factor, Say Police

Interestingly, contrary to his claims of feeling demeaned, Deepak Yadav is reportedly a wealthy individual with a substantial monthly income. Police have revealed that he earns between ₹15 lakh and ₹17 lakh per month through rental properties across Gurugram and owns a luxury farmhouse. Locals from his native village of Wazirabad describe him as a “well-off landlord” with significant assets, according to reports by NDTV.

This has led investigators to rule out financial dependency as a credible motive, instead pointing to deep-rooted ego clashes and strained family dynamics.

Possible Objection to Daughter’s Public Appearance

Apart from professional disagreements, police are also examining whether recent personal choices by Radhika may have further inflamed tensions. She had recently appeared in a music video—an act that her father reportedly disapproved of. “He had asked her to remove the video from social media, which she refused to do,” a senior officer said.

Radhika’s mother is also being questioned to ascertain her knowledge of prior disputes and her presence at the time of the incident.

A Promising Life Cut Short

Radhika Yadav was a former national-level tennis player known for her discipline, grit, and entrepreneurial spirit. After stepping back from professional tennis, she devoted herself to training young players, founding her own academy which gained a positive reputation in the local sports community.

Friends, former coaches, and neighbors have expressed shock and sorrow at the brutal killing. “She was passionate about tennis and full of life. It’s heartbreaking that her ambition became the reason for her death,” said a family friend.

As the investigation deepens, the case has reignited conversations around parental control, autonomy of women, and domestic violence hidden behind upper-class respectability.
