A 14‑year‑old boy, identified as Pant Aarti Makwana, tragically lost his life on Wednesday evening after allegedly jumping from the Brooke building in Mumbai’s Kandivali suburb when his mother insisted he attend tuition classes, Mumbai Police reported on Thursday According to the mother’s statement to police, she pressed him to leave around 7 pm despite his reluctance; moments later, a watchman informed her that he had fallen from the high-rise, and he was found critically injured in a pool of blood

The police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR), and the boy’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination as authorities continue a detailed investigation Early inquiries, including family and watchman statements, reveal no immediate signs of foul play, though officials have noted that CCTV footage and digital records are being reviewed as part of standard procedure

This distressing incident occurs amidst a broader context of academic and parental pressure in Mumbai—especially noticeable in Kandivali—where several similar tragedies have previously surfaced, such as a 12‑year‑old who jumped from a building following an argument over tuition in 2016. Mental health experts underscore the urgent need to address emotional well-being among adolescents, particularly regarding academic stress. In response, local helplines offer support for youth and parents:

Mumbai Police have reassured the public that the investigation remains ongoing, with all possible angles—including mental health triggers and peer interactions—being explored. No additional suspicious activity or evidence has emerged at this stage
