Opposition Protests Speaker’s Decision, Raises Concerns Over HPSC, HSSC Recruitments
The protest erupted shortly after the Question Hour, when senior Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal sought clarification from Speaker Harvinder Kalyan on the status of the adjournment motion submitted by her party.
Bhukkal said the Congress wanted an urgent discussion on recruitment practices over the past several years, alleging irregularities and seeking accountability from the government.
Speaker Rejects Motion, Cites Lack of Urgency
Initially stating that the matter was under consideration, Speaker Kalyan later announced the motion’s rejection, triggering protests from Congress members.
“You have sought replies regarding recruitments spanning the last 11 years. Under Assembly rules, only matters of urgent public importance qualify for adjournment motions, and this does not fall under that category,” the Speaker ruled.
Congress MLAs reacted strongly, raising slogans and demanding that the motion be admitted for discussion. Heated exchanges followed between the ruling and opposition benches, disrupting the proceedings.
Amid the escalating confrontation, Congress legislators staged a walkout in protest, accusing the government of attempting to evade scrutiny on recruitment-related issues.
Government Accuses Congress of Disrupting House Proceedings
Responding to the protest, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mahipal Dhanda accused the Congress of deliberately disrupting the House and raising issues that did not merit urgent discussion.
He said the opposition was wasting valuable legislative time by creating unnecessary confrontation instead of engaging constructively in the Budget session.
The Congress, however, has consistently raised concerns over alleged irregularities in recruitments by the HPSC and HSSC, including claims that candidates from outside Haryana were being selected over local aspirants.
The incident highlights growing friction between the ruling and opposition parties during the ongoing Budget session, with recruitment and employment issues emerging as a key political flashpoint in the state.
