Ahmedabad, June 13: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today visited Ahmedabad to review the situation in the aftermath of the unfortunate crash of Air India Flight AI 171. The aircraft, en route from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after take-off on June 12, resulting in a tragic loss of lives and property in the Meghaninagar locality.
After visiting the crash site to assess the ground situation, the Prime Minister chaired a high-level review meeting at the Guj Sail building near Ahmedabad Airport. The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Ram Mohan Naidu, Union Minister for Jal Shakti and Gujarat BJP President, Shri CR Paatil, and senior officials from the Central and State Governments, including representatives from the DGCA, NDRF, and local administration.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed in detail on the sequence of events leading to the crash, the immediate emergency response by central and state agencies, and the status of ongoing rescue and relief operations. The Prime Minister directed that ” all possible assistance should be extended to the families of the deceased and the injured. DGCA will conduct a thorough technical investigation in coordination with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
The Prime Minister expressed profound grief over the tragic incident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. He appreciated the swift response by local authorities, emergency services, and residents who provided timely assistance in the immediate aftermath of the crash.
The Civil Aviation Minister informed that the black box and cockpit voice recorder have been recovered and a full-scale inquiry is underway. A preliminary report is expected within 10 days.
The Gujarat Government has set up a 24×7 control room and helpline for families of passengers and affected residents, and arrangements for medical treatment, temporary housing, and counselling are being made.
