Chandigarh: The Haryana Police have once again emerged as a leader in technology-driven policing, securing the first position nationwide for the 17th time in the last 20 months in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) monthly rankings released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for June.
DGP Kapur Lauds Technology-Driven Policing
Congratulating the CCTNS team, Shatrujeet Kapur, Director General of Police (DGP), credited the milestone to “a new approach, improved working methods, and effective use of modern technology.” “This achievement reflects the professional and tech-savvy approach of Haryana Police, where digital platforms like CCTNS and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) have transformed policing. These platforms have enhanced criminal identification, ensured transparent investigations, and expedited justice delivery. With this dedication, Haryana Police will continue to set national benchmarks in smart policing,” Kapur said.
CCTNS: Building a Fully Digital Crime Management System
Sibash Kabiraj, Director of the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), explained that CCTNS aims to create an integrated digital platform for crime investigation, tracking criminals, and managing cases. “Major structural and technical improvements made over the last two years have increased efficiency across police stations. As a result, Haryana has secured first position in the country 17 times in 20 months, achieving a perfect 100% score almost every month,” Kabiraj said.
In August and September 2024, Haryana ranked third nationally with a 99.99% score, while in other months, it maintained the top spot with 100% efficiency.
100% Digital Operations Across All Police Stations
All police stations in Haryana are now fully integrated into the CCTNS network. Key operations—including:
- FIR registration
- Non-cognizable reports
- Medico-legal cases
- Missing persons and lost property tracking
- Unknown dead body identification
- Foreign registration and preventive policing
- Complaint monitoring and investigation progress
—are now handled entirely on digital platforms, enabling real-time monitoring and faster response times.
NAFIS Boosts Criminal Identification
The Haryana Police have also extensively used the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS). Millions of fingerprints uploaded since 2022 have been matched against national criminal records, leading to “Chance prints collected from crime scenes have been successfully matched on NAFIS, giving us an edge in solving complex crimes quickly and scientifically,” Kabiraj
*93 serious criminal cases solved, including 22 murders.
