Chandigarh: As Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir reel under the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides that have displaced thousands of families, the focus has been mainly on rebuilding homes, repairing infrastructure, and restoring livelihoods. Yet, amid this crisis, the future of young students—whose education risks disruption due to financial hardship—has emerged as a silent casualty.
Taking note of this pressing concern, Desh Bhagat University (DBU) has come forward with a compassionate step. The University has announced a 50% Scholarship in Tuition Fee for students belonging to flood and landslide-affected families who wish to pursue UGC-regulated non-council programs across Regular, Online, and Open & Distance Learning (ODL) modes.
Expressing his concern for the calamity-hit families, Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of DBU, said: “The recent floods and landslides have shaken the lives of countless families, leaving behind not only damage to homes and livelihoods but also deep uncertainty for the younger generation. At DBU, we firmly believe that education is the foundation of hope and the strongest tool for rebuilding futures”. For many students in Punjab, Himachal, and J&K who lost homes, fields, or earning members of their families, this support could prove to be a lifeline, ensuring their academic dreams remain alive.
