New Delhi: Zomato founder and chief executive officer Deepinder Goyal on Friday announced a $25 million self-funded initiative to support global research on human ageing and biology, under his independent project titled ‘Continue Research.’ In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Goyal said the initiative aims to empower scientists exploring bold and unconventional questions in biology. “Today, we are expanding Continue Research to include a $25 million fund [entirely personally backed] to support researchers across the world who dare to ask simpler questions than anyone else — who believe biology might be far simpler than we’ve made it,” Goyal wrote.
What is ‘Continue Research’?
Founded by Goyal two years ago, Continue Research operates as both a research team and a seed fund, rather than a commercial startup. The initiative focuses on understanding “upstream mechanisms in biology” — the fundamental systems that govern life and ageing.
According to its website, the project’s philosophy is that biology may be simpler than it appears when studied through a holistic systems approach rather than isolated components. “We believe biology could be far simpler than we’ve made it, if only we took a systems approach to the whole picture rather than studying it pixel by pixel,” the project states.
The overarching goal, Goyal said, is to extend healthy human function and help people make long-term, sustainable life decisions.
Focus on Human Ageing
Goyal revealed that Continue Research is in the final stages of a key hypothesis on human ageing — one he says could redefine how science understands the biology of ageing. “Along with a team of initially sceptical researchers, we’ve been investigating a penny-drop insight about human ageing — something that’s been hiding in plain sight for eternity. We are at the tail-end of the research on this hypothesis, which, if true, could fundamentally change our understanding of biology and ageing,” he said.
The initiative is collaborating with scientists across disciplines, using unconventional methods to uncover “hidden” patterns that influence the ageing process. More announcements related to the research findings are expected in the coming weeks.
A Shift Beyond Food-Tech
Goyal’s move marks a significant personal pivot beyond Zomato’s food-delivery ecosystem into deep science and human longevity research — a field attracting global attention from tech entrepreneurs such as Jeff Bezos, Bryan Johnson, and Sam Altman. Industry analysts see Goyal’s foray as part of a growing trend where Indian tech founders are diversifying into frontier scientific domains, blending entrepreneurial vision with long-term societal impact.
