Chandigarh: A special CBI court in Chandigarh on Monday sent Kirshanu Sharda, the alleged aide of suspended Haryana DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, to judicial custody till November 20 in the bribery case registered against them.

Sharda was produced before the court after the expiry of his four-day CBI remand. During the hearing, the court also ordered a fresh medical examination of the accused after his counsel complained that Sharda appeared to have developed difficulty in walking.

“The defence submitted that the accused was walking normally when he was last produced before the court but now seems to have trouble walking,” a source present in court proceedings said. Acting on the counsel’s request, the court directed the CBI to get Sharda medically examined again and to submit a detailed report at the next hearing.

CBI Seeks Judicial Custody

CBI public prosecutor Narender Singh urged the court to send the accused to judicial custody, saying his custodial interrogation was no longer required. After hearing both sides, the court accepted the request and remanded Sharda to judicial custody till November 20.

Background of the Case

The CBI had arrested DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and his alleged conduit Kirshanu Sharda on October 16, 2025, for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from a complainant.

As per the FIR, the complainant — Naresh Batta, a scrap dealer from Mandi Gobindgarh — alleged that Bhullar had demanded a bribe of ₹8 lakh through Sharda to “settle” a 2023 case registered at the Sirhind police station and to ensure that no further coercive action was taken against him.

The CBI had earlier submitted that Sharda acted as the intermediary for Bhullar, allegedly collecting the money on his behalf. Both accused were taken into custody after a trap operation and have since been interrogated regarding the flow of money and possible involvement of other officials. DIG Bhullar, who was posted in Haryana’s law and order wing, remains under suspension pending further investigation.
