Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today led a historic and emotionally charged ceremony in Ayodhya as he hoisted a grand saffron flag atop the 191-foot ‘shikhara’ of the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, symbolically marking the formal completion of the temple’s construction. The ceremony, held at noon during the auspicious Abhijit Muhurat of Shri Ram and Mata Sita’s Vivah Panchami, drew thousands of devotees and was described by the Prime Minister as a moment of civilisational healing.

Standing before the newly completed Mandir, the Prime Minister said, “Wounds and pain of centuries are healing today. A 500-year-old resolve is being fulfilled. Ayodhya is witnessing another epochal event, and the entire country—indeed the world—is immersed in Ram.”

The ceremony, steeped in symbolism and tradition, was attended by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Before participating in the flag-hoisting, the Prime Minister held a roadshow, visited the newly built Sapt Mandir complex, and offered prayers at shrines dedicated to revered figures such as Maharshi Vashishtha, Maharshi Vishwamitra, Maharshi Agastya, Maharshi Valmiki, Devi Ahilya, Nishadraj Guha and Mata Shabari.

A Sacred Flag Deeply Rooted in Sanatan Parampara

The saffron ‘Dharma Dhwaj’, now towering above the temple complex, carries three sacred symbols—Om, the Sun, and the Kovidara tree—each drawing from layers of Sanatan spiritual philosophy.

The Kovidara, a hybrid of Mandar and Parijat created by Rishi Kashyap, reflects ancient India’s scientific tradition of plant hybridisation.
The Sun symbolises Lord Ram’s birth into the Suryavansh lineage.
Om, the eternal cosmic sound, represents universal consciousness.

Unveiling the flag, PM Modi said, “This sacred flag will stand as a testament that truth ultimately triumphs over falsehood.”

In a social media post after landing in Ayodhya, he wrote, “Landed in Ayodhya to take part in the Dhwajarohan Utsav at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir.”

A Defining Cultural Moment for Sanatan Dharma

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath described the event as the “renaissance of Sanatan culture”, asserting in an X post that “the faith, penance, and anticipation of crores of Ram devotees are today about to be established at a new pinnacle.”

Calling Ayodhya “the foremost of the seven sacred cities”, the Chief Minister said the spirit of Dharma was flowing “throughout Bharatvarsha” as millions watched the ceremony unfold live.

The hoisting of the saffron flag marks yet another monumental milestone for the Ayodhya Ram Temple, following the Pran Pratishtha ceremony earlier this year. With today’s event, the temple’s construction enters its final phase, opening a new chapter of cultural resurgence, spiritual unity, and national pride.

The ceremonious raising of the Dharma Dhwaj, against the chants of Jai Shri Ram resonating across Ayodhya, has been hailed as a defining moment in India’s modern spiritual journey—one that bridges centuries of devotion, struggle and unwavering faith.
