Police Foil Over 100 Planned Murders, Target Tech-Driven Policing in 2026
Chandigarh:Haryana Police recorded a significant decline in overall crime in 2025 while simultaneously intensifying action against organised gangs, violent repeat offenders and cybercriminals. According to official data, total cognisable crime under IPC/BNS and special local laws fell by 5.7 per cent this year, reflecting strengthened preventive policing and intelligence-led operations across the state
Director General of Police O P Singh said the results were a product of focused ground domination and data-driven deployment. “Our strategy in 2025 was clear — last-mile domination, proactive intelligence and swift intervention. By identifying hotspots early and neutralising threats before they materialised, we have not only reduced crime but also prevented serious offences, including more than 100 planned murders,” the DGP said.
Sharp Decline in Crimes Against Persons, Women and Property
As per figures available till December 28, total cases declined from 1,35,574 in 2024 to 1,27,850 in 2025. Crimes under IPC/BNS alone dropped by over 3 per cent, while cases under special and local laws saw a steeper fall of more than 17 per cent.
Crimes against persons showed a consistent downward trend. Murder cases fell from 958 to 904, grievous hurt declined by nearly 9.5 per cent, and robbery dropped sharply by around 24 per cent. Snatching and burglary cases also recorded double-digit reductions, signalling the impact of hotspot-based policing and enhanced patrolling.
Crimes against women showed notable improvement, with rape cases falling by over 25 per cent, alongside declines in molestation, sexual harassment and dowry deaths. Kidnapping, abduction and offences under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act also registered a decrease, reflecting improved community engagement and faster investigation workflows
Gang Crackdown, Cybercrime Leadership and Forensic Push
Through Operation Trackdown and Operation Hotspot Domination, Haryana Police arrested and jailed more than 4,000 violent and repeat offenders, substantially weakening organised crime and extortion networks. Sustained surveillance and technical monitoring during October–December alone helped neutralise over 100 planned targeted attacks before execution.
The force also strengthened its leadership in cybercrime control by expanding specialised cyber police stations, improving real-time coordination with banks, and leveraging advanced digital forensics. Faster reporting and integration with national cybercrime portals led to improved recovery rates in financial fraud cases.
At the same time, transformational investments were made in forensic science, including upgrades in DNA profiling, cyber and mobile forensics, ballistics and narcotics analysis — resulting in stronger charge sheets and reduced pendency of forensic reports.
Roadmap for 2026: Technology, Forensics and Community Policing
Looking ahead, DGP O P Singh said Haryana Police will deepen technology-driven policing in 2026. “Our focus will be on AI-assisted crime mapping, predictive analytics, expanded CCTV grids and integrated command-and-control systems. Cybercrime units will be further strengthened, and forensic turnaround times in heinous cases will be reduced,” he said.
The police will also emphasise victim-centric services, support for women and vulnerable groups, and structured community engagement in sensitive and crime-prone areas. Backed by inter-state and international coordination, Haryana Police aims to build on the momentum of 2025 to make the state safer and more secure in the coming year
