His latest parole comes just months after he was granted a similar 40-day parole in August 2025, which he reportedly used to celebrate his 58th birthday. Earlier this year, he was granted a 30-day parole in January, ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, and a 21-day furlough in April.

Chandigarh: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two of his disciples, has once again been granted a 40-day parole. He is currently lodged in Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, Haryana.

According to officials, the Rohtak Divisional Commissioner approved the parole, and Ram Rahim is likely to be released on Sunday or Monday. This is the 15th time he will step out of prison on parole or furlough since his conviction in 2017.

Ram Rahim is serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two women disciples. He is also serving life imprisonment for the murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, who had exposed the Dera’s activities.

His latest parole comes just months after he was granted a similar 40-day parole in August 2025, which he reportedly used to celebrate his 58th birthday. Earlier this year, he was granted a 30-day parole in January, ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, and a 21-day furlough in April.

In previous years as well, his parole and furloughs have coincided with key electoral events. He was allowed a 20-day parole in October 2024, days before the Haryana Assembly elections, and a three-week furlough in February 2022, shortly before the Punjab Assembly polls.

On several occasions when released, the Dera chief has stayed at the Bagpat ashram of Dera Sacha Sauda in Uttar Pradesh.

The repeated grant of parole to the controversial Dera chief has often drawn political and public scrutiny, particularly when such relief coincides with election periods.
