Chandigarh:  In a significant push towards paperless governance and student convenience, the Punjab Government on Monday launched “E-Sanad”, a fully digital platform for verification and authentication of education documents, effectively ending long queues, manual paperwork and weeks-long waiting periods.

With the rollout of E-Sanad, present and former students of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) can now get their marksheets and certificates verified online within a few days, compared to the earlier turnaround time of 40–45 days, officials said.

The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students annually, particularly those seeking admissions, employment or migration abroad, while significantly enhancing the global credibility of PSEB-issued certificates.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the service is now available to all PSEB students and alumni who require verification of board-issued academic documents. “This reform brings speed, transparency and ease. Students no longer need to visit offices or chase files for weeks physically,” he said.

Under the E-Sanad system, documents will be digitally verified by PSEB and subsequently authenticated by the Ministry of External Affairs. The platform supports both Apostille certification for countries covered under the Hague Convention and MEA attestation for non-Hague countries, with embassy attestation wherever required.

Officials explained that the Hague Convention mechanism replaces lengthy embassy legalisation procedures with a single Apostille certificate issued by a competent authority in the document’s country of origin, making international acceptance of documents quicker and simpler.

PSEB Chairman Amarpal Singh said the entire process is entirely online and paperless. Applicants can access the E-Sanad portal, the online payment gateway, and detailed step-by-step instructions through the board’s official website (www.pseb.ac.in).  No lo. No in-person visits to PSEB offices are required.

The Punjab government said the launch of E-Sanad aligns with its broader digital governance agenda, aimed at reducing red tape, improving service delivery and ensuring that students from the state face no procedural hurdles when pursuing opportunities in India or overseas.
