Chandigarh: Months after a series of hoax bomb threat emails disrupted schools in Amritsar and Jalandhar in December 2025, a fresh wave of similar threats has once again put educational institutions on high alert—this time across Chandigarh and several districts of Haryana, including Karnal and Gurugram. Police and district administrations have launched coordinated security operations, even as authorities urge parents, students and school managements to remain calm.
In Chandigarh, as many as 26 schools received threatening emails and phone calls warning of possible bomb attacks. Confirming the development, SSP Kanwardeep Kaur said security teams had so far conducted thorough checks at 10 schools, with no suspicious objects found.
“The email IDs from which these threatening messages were sent are being investigated by the cyber cell. All digital leads are being actively traced to identify the perpetrators,” the SSP said, adding that an FIR has been registered at Sector 17 police station and the investigation is ongoing.
Responding to queries about earlier threat emails received by the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the District Court, SSP Kaur said those investigations were still underway and police were working to connect all available leads to gain a comprehensive understanding of the incidents.
Appealing for calm, she said, “There is no need to panic. Chandigarh Police are fully alert, and security has been strengthened at all schools. Teams are continuously inspecting premises, and the situation is under constant monitoring.” Authorities reiterated that public safety remains the top priority and advised citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately.
Meanwhile, in Haryana’s Karnal district, 12 private schools received bomb threats via email on Wednesday, triggering panic among school administrations, parents and students. Police and bomb disposal squads rushed to the affected campuses, following which precautionary evacuations were carried out. Students were safely sent home, while teachers and staff helped maintain order during the process.
Senior police officials said intensive security checks were conducted across all threatened schools. “No suspicious object has been found so far. The situation is under control,” an official said, while confirming that an investigation had been launched to trace the origin of the emails.
A similar alert unfolded in Gurugram, where more than six private schools received bomb threats via email early Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from the police and district administration. The affected schools included Kunskapalan School (DLF Phase 1), Lancers School (Sector 53), Heritage Experiential Learning School (Sector 64), Shiv Nadar School (DLF Phase 1), Shri Ram Aravali School, and Pathways World School near Badshahpur.
According to school authorities, the emails were received around 7.10 am, just as school buses began arriving. Parents were immediately advised not to send their children to school, while students who had already reached the campuses were sent back home. Police teams, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, and SDRF units were deployed, and search operations are currently underway.
A senior police officer said no suspicious material had been recovered so far, but stressed that the situation was being closely monitored. Across all affected regions, police have assured residents that necessary preventive measures are in place, while urging residents to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to official advisories.
