Punjab has attracted investment proposals worth ₹1.55 lakh crore since 2022, generating jobs for over 5.4 lakh youth, says Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann

Mohali:Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday said the ₹286-crore campus being set up by Infosys in Mohali will provide direct employment to 2,700 youth while creating thousands of indirect jobs, marking what he described as a major boost for the state’s technology and industrial ecosystem.

Speaking after performing the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, the Chief Minister said Punjab’s industrial landscape was witnessing a decisive turnaround, with investors returning to the state after years of uncertainty.

Infosys Campus to Strengthen IT Ecosystem

The new integrated campus will include a software development block, food court and other facilities, with a built-up area of 3.5 lakh square feet and seating capacity for around 3,000 employees.

Welcoming representatives of Infosys, Mann thanked the company for showing confidence in Punjab’s industry-friendly policies and also acknowledged the contribution of Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy to the growth of India’s technology sector.

The Chief Minister said the state government would provide full support to the project, expressing hope that it would attract more technology companies to the state.

Infosys currently employs over 3.37 lakh people worldwide and recorded revenues of $15.12 billion in the first nine months of FY 2025-26, he added.

₹1.55 Lakh Crore Investments Since 2022

Highlighting the state’s industrial progress, Mann said that investment proposals worth more than ₹1.55 lakh crore have been received since March 2022, which are expected to create around 5.44 lakh jobs for youth.

He attributed the investment inflow to industry-friendly policies, transparent governance and improved law-and-order conditions in the state.

The Chief Minister also announced that a ₹3,200-crore project by Tata Steel in Ludhiana will be inaugurated on March 20, generating employment for about 2,500 people.

Progressive Punjab Investment Summit Ahead

Mann said the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit, scheduled to be held in Mohali from March 13 to March 15, would mark an important milestone for the state’s economic growth.

“The coming three days will be crucial as Punjab scripts a new success story in industrial development,” he said.

He also noted that several global companies, including Nestlé, Claas, Freudenberg Group, Cargill, Verbio, and Danone, have already established operations in Punjab.

Investments are also coming from countries including Japan, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, France, and Spain.

Punjab Emerging as Investment Hub

The Chief Minister said Mohali has the potential to become a major industrial and technology hub, thanks to its international airport and a strong talent pool within an 80-kilometre radius.

He also highlighted that Punjab ranks high in the Ease of Doing Business rankings and has introduced a single-window clearance system, along with the Right to Business Act, to facilitate investment.

Mann added that creating employment opportunities for youth remains a priority for the government.

“Our goal is to place a tiffin in the hands of youth by giving them employment so that they stay away from social evils such as drug abuse,” he said. Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney were also present at the event.
