Home Minister accuses Mann government of pushing state into corruption, drugs and crime
Chandigarh: Ahead of addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Badlav Rally’ in Moga on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, alleging that the state has been pushed into corruption, drugs and crime under its rule.
In a post on the social media platform X, Shah said the people of Punjab were looking for change. “Every person in Punjab wants change. Because the sacred land of Punjab, known for its soldiers, farmers and hardworking people, has been drowned in corruption, drugs and crime by the ‘Aap-da’ government,” Shah wrote.
Attack on the Mann Government
Targeting the government led by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Shah alleged that governance in the state was being run through “remote control” from Delhi. “Under this remotely controlled AAP government, law and order and development are missing from Punjab,” he said. Shah added that he was looking forward to interacting with people at the BJP rally in Moga. “Today we are eager to engage with the sisters and brothers of Punjab at the BJP’s ‘Badlav’ rally in Moga,” he said.
— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) March 14, 2026
Launch of BJP’s 2027 Campaign
The rally, being organised at Killi Chahlan village in Moga, is widely seen as the formal launch of the BJP’s campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections. Moga lies in the politically significant Malwa region, which accounts for 69 of the state’s 117 Assembly constituencies, making it crucial for any party seeking to form the next government. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the event, with thousands of party workers and supporters expected to attend.
Political Contest Intensifies
Interestingly, the same venue had hosted an AAP rally in February, addressed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma had earlier claimed that the people of Punjab were looking towards the BJP as a credible alternative. “People of Punjab have made up their mind to remove the AAP government from power in 2027,” Sharma had said. With the ‘Badlav Rally’, the BJP hopes to consolidate its political presence in Punjab and position itself as a key challenger in the upcoming Assembly elections.
