Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and alleged drug money kingpin Bikram Singh Majithia is once again under the scanner as the Punjab Vigilance Bureau gears up to file a fresh FIR against him. The move comes in the wake of a dramatic raid conducted at his residence, during which his supporters reportedly clashed with officials in an attempt to obstruct the investigation.
According to senior sources in the vigilance department, the raid was carried out following credible intelligence that crucial documents linked to a ₹540 crore drug money laundering case were being concealed at one of Majithia’s properties. The location, already under suspicion for its role in sheltering international drug traffickers in the past, was considered vital for unearthing documentary evidence related to the ongoing probe.
However, as the vigilance team arrived at the premises, they encountered unexpected resistance. In its formal complaint, the investigation team has accused Majithia of deliberately provoking his supporters to create a hostile environment, physically obstructing the search, and even attempting to destroy key evidence. The officials claim they were physically attacked and intimidated, forcing them to halt the operation temporarily.
“This was not a spontaneous protest. It was a calculated attempt to derail the investigation,” a senior official said on condition of anonymity. “The supporters seemed to have been briefed in advance and were instigated to confront and attack the team.”
The vigilance bureau is now preparing to lodge a fresh FIR under multiple sections, including criminal intimidation, assault on public servants, destruction of evidence, and criminal conspiracy. Legal experts suggest that these charges, coupled with the ongoing drug money laundering probe, could severely compound Majithia’s legal troubles.
Majithia, who has previously been jailed in a related case and is out on bail, has consistently denied all charges, calling them “politically motivated.” However, the latest developments and mounting evidence may make it harder for him to maintain that stance.
The ₹540 crore drug money trail, which has rocked Punjab politics in recent years, has seen several high-profile names come under scrutiny. Majithia, in particular, has been accused of facilitating cross-border narcotics operations and providing political cover to drug cartels operating out of Punjab. Several international traffickers, according to intelligence inputs, were known to have frequented the now-raided residence.
The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has vowed to intensify its war on drugs, with a special focus on unearthing the alleged political nexus that has allowed the narcotics trade to thrive in the state for years.
As the investigation intensifies, the coming days are likely to bring further twists to the already sensational Majithia saga, with law enforcement agencies determined to pursue every lead, regardless of its political sensitivity.
