CHANDIGARH: Marking the fourth death anniversary of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala, whose real name was Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, his father Balkaur Singh on Thursday levelled serious allegations against the Punjab Police and state administration, claiming that despite the passage of years, the masterminds behind his son’s murder continue to remain beyond the reach of law.

Speaking emotionally before large gatherings in Mansa, Balkaur Singh said the family was still waiting for “real justice” nearly four years after the singer was assassinated in broad daylight on May 29, 2022.

‘Masterminds still protected’

Addressing supporters and fans who had assembled to pay tribute to the slain singer, Balkaur Singh expressed deep frustration over what he described as the slow and selective pace of the investigation.

He alleged that while local shooters and known gangster figures had been arrested or identified, the larger political and financial conspiracy behind the murder was allegedly being deliberately shielded.

“I am the father who lost his only son, yet instead of getting answers, I am the one being targeted and continuously harassed by administrative procedures. We have provided proofs, we have made rounds of police offices, but the system is working to weaken our case,” he alleged.

Balkaur Singh claimed that despite repeated appeals and submission of evidence to authorities, the family had not received satisfactory answers regarding the broader conspiracy allegedly linked to the killing.

Tensions with authorities continue

His remarks come amid ongoing friction between the Moose Wala family and local authorities over several issues connected to the singer’s legacy and financial affairs.

Recently, Balkaur Singh and supporters had staged protests outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Mansa over alleged unauthorised exploitation of Sidhu Moose Wala’s unreleased songs and disputes related to undistributed company revenues.

The family has repeatedly accused authorities and certain individuals of failing to adequately protect Moose Wala’s artistic and commercial legacy after his death.

Questions anti-gangster campaigns

Taking a direct swipe at the Punjab government’s anti-gangster drive, Balkaur Singh questioned the effectiveness of official campaigns against organised crime.

He alleged that such campaigns amounted to mere rhetoric as long as the “main conspirators” behind high-profile killings continued to evade accountability.

Frustrated with what he termed a failing law-and-order machinery, Balkaur Singh hinted that his legal and emotional battle for justice could evolve into a broader public movement.

Observers viewed his comments as a sign of increasing public pressure on the state government over the handling of the high-profile murder investigation.

Thousands gather in Mansa, Moosa village

Security arrangements remained tight across Mansa district and Moosa village as thousands of fans, supporters and well-wishers gathered to commemorate the singer’s death anniversary.

The gathering effectively transformed into a large public rally demanding justice for the late artist, whose popularity has continued to grow even after his death.

Supporters carrying photographs, banners and posters of Moose Wala raised slogans demanding strict punishment for all those involved in the murder conspiracy.

Stadium inaugurated in Moose Wala’s memory

On the occasion, the family also inaugurated a stadium in memory of Sidhu Moose Wala in his native village.

The memorial initiative was presented as a tribute to the singer’s enduring connection with Punjab’s youth, rural culture and sports traditions.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential Punjabi artists of his generation, Sidhu Moose Wala had achieved global fame through his music, outspoken lyrics and strong cultural identity before his killing shocked the country and triggered nationwide outrage.

His assassination had also intensified concerns over gangster networks, organised crime and security lapses in Punjab. Even years later, the case continues to evoke strong emotions among fans and supporters who believe the full truth behind the killing has yet to emerge.
