Chandigarh: In one of the most significant narcotics recoveries this year, the Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on Saturday seized 50 kg of heroin after dismantling a trans-border trafficking module allegedly operated with the support of Pakistan-based handlers, officials said.
The breakthrough came during an intelligence-driven operation, leading to the arrest of Sandeep Singh alias Seepa, a resident of Kapurthala district. Police officials confirmed that the seized consignment had been pushed into India by ISI-backed Pakistani smugglers, marking yet another instance of cross-border drug infiltration.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav called the seizure a “big win in the war on drugs,” adding that the precision-led operation once again exposed the deep nexus between local peddlers and foreign networks.
“Sandeep was already facing five drug-related cases and had recently been released on bail,” the DGP said. Police sources added that he had resumed contact with cross-border operatives soon after his release, making him a key link in the trafficking chain.
The ANTF is now probing the forward and backward linkages of the module, including the consignment’s route, financial channels, domestic distribution networks, and the identities of other operatives involved. Officials said more arrests are likely as the investigation progresses. The recovery, they added, reflects an intensified push by Punjab Police to choke cross-border narcotics pipelines and dismantle repeat-offender networks.
