11 Schools Evacuated,  Received Bomb Threat Emails

Jalandhar: Just days after bomb hoax emails triggered panic in Amritsar schools on December 12, a similar scare gripped Jalandhar on Monday after 11 schools received bomb threat emails, prompting swift evacuations and heightened security measures. The threats led to panic among parents, many of whom rushed to school gates to pick up their children as authorities moved quickly to assess the situation.

Schools Shut, Students Sent Home

The first three schools to report the threat were St Joseph’s Convent School, IVY World School, and Sanskriti KMV School. Subsequently, eight more schools reported receiving similar emails. School management immediately shared details of the emails with the police. As a precautionary step, the schools were closed around noon, and students were sent home early. To avoid alarming children, school authorities withheld details of the threat until dispersal was completed. Parents were notified via WhatsApp about the early closure.

Advisory to Parents

In a message to parents, St Joseph’s Convent School said: “The school has announced a half day today, December 15. Dispersal time for all students will be 11.55 am. Please ignore rumours. Authorities have thoroughly inspected the school premises and no threat has been detected. As a precautionary measure, children are being sent home early.”

Police Say Threats Appear Hoax

Addressing the media at 1 pm, Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal and Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur said there was no need to panic. “So far, 11 schools have reported receiving threat emails. Our cybercrime teams have registered an FIR. The emails appear to be non-genuine and in an identical format, similar to those received in Amritsar,” they said.

Search Operations and Cyber Probe Underway

Dhanpreet Kaur said police teams reached the schools immediately after receiving information around 10 am. “Bomb disposal and anti-sabotage teams were deployed. Additional police personnel were brought in from the PAP complex as a precaution,” she said, adding that the origin of the emails is being traced. Authorities said security has been strengthened around educational institutions across the city while investigations continue.
