In a significant breakthrough in Punjab Police’s ongoing crackdown on terrorism, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module being operated by UK-based handler Dharam Singh alias Dharma Sandhu. One local operative has been arrested and six sophisticated foreign-made pistols have been seized, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced on Saturday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Onkar Singh, alias Nawab, a resident of the village of Jalalusma in Amritsar district. The recovered arms cache includes four Glock 9mm pistols and two .30 bore PX5 pistols, all smuggled into India via drones from across the Indo-Pak border.

DGP Yadav said Dharma Sandhu, who is based in the UK, is a key associate of Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, and was operating this module remotely. “Initial investigation suggests that the recovered weapons were intended to be used in targeted killings and other terror-related activities to disturb peace in Punjab,” he added.

Sharing operational details, Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the arrest was made based on precise intelligence inputs and coordinated action. “During interrogation, the accused revealed that the weapons were delivered through drones and were part of a larger terror plot,” he said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Onkar Singh was part of a sleeper cell activated by foreign-based handlers to destabilise the state. “The seized weapons were to be distributed among local operatives to carry out targeted killings and spread unrest,” CP Bhullar added.

Efforts are underway to trace other operatives linked to this module and to map out both forward and backwards linkages in the network, he said.

A case under FIR No. 121 dated 21-06-2025 has been registered under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Maqboolpura, Amritsar. Further investigation is in progress to expose the entire network and its international connections.
