Several parts of Punjab and Haryana, along with their joint capital Chandigarh, were lashed by heavy rainfall on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and causing a dip in temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department, Chandigarh recorded 119.5 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am Sunday. In Punjab, heavy showers were reported from Ferozepur, Mohali, Ludhiana, Patiala, Pathankot, and Rupnagar. Haryana’s Ambala received 91 mm of rain, while Rohtak, Gurugram, Kaithal, Nuh, and Panchkula also witnessed moderate to heavy rain.
The rain led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across the region.
The Met Department has forecast light to moderate rain in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on June 30 and July 1, with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations.
Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places, especially in the northern and eastern parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh. Very heavy rain is likely in districts such as Yamunanagar, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Patiala, and Sangrur during the June 29–July 1 period.
